Hexagons & the Hex N More Ruler

English paper piecing is defined as:
A technique in which fabric is basted over paper templates; the shapes are then whip-stitched together. It is often used to piece small shapes with precision.

What the definition doesn't add is how much fun English paper piecing is! Click here to read more about Magen's Flower Garden, the quilt in the banner above.

Sewline Glue Pen

I finally found a use for glue! I'm using this glue pen to baste the seam allownces to the paper in English paper piecing. It works, it's fast, and I love it!

Run the glue along the edge of the paper, not the fabric. Fold the fabric over the edge of the paper and onto the glued area. The glue comes in blue, pink, or yellow but it dries clear. Once dry, it holds the fabric securely but it also releases with little effort. Click here for a how-to video.

TIP - Use a light hand with the glue; it doesn't take much.

Bigger Tip: Don't press until you've removed the papers! I pressed mine and that made the fabric harder to peel free. Linda tried it without pressing and it was a lot better. I'm sorry for a prior tip where I told you to press. You really can learn something new every day.

Hex N More Ruler by Jaybird Quilts

This cool, easy-to-use ruler was designed by Julie Herman at Jaybird Quilts. I don't buy many specialty rulers, but this is one that I am very happy to have!

The design possibilities are nearly endless. I used it to make the quilt below for my great neice. It is a variation of Julie's Science Fair pattern, also below.

Yay! Julie posted a how to bind a hex quilt! She did it, I don't have to - I love that. FYI - she did it exactly the way I did it and perhaps, the way you have done it as well. But click here to be sure.
