Applique with Attitude Using Perle Cotton by Presencia

Size 16 is thicker than hand quilting thread. It is showy without being a show-off and it pulls through fabric well. One 10-gram ball of size 16 perle cotton has approximately 156 yards of thread.
Size 12 is thicker still. It is more visible from a distance but still pulls through the fabric without a fight. All colors are available in both weights. One 10-gram ball of size 12 perle cotton has approximately 136 yards of thread.

Elizabeth emailed to ask how this perle cotton compares to size 8 perle cotton. This is an excellent question and one I thought some of you might want to know the answer to. Here is my response:
Size 8 perle cotton by any manufacturer is much heavier than either the size 12 or 16. Size 8 is really hard to pull through the fabric especially at the edges of the applique where there is more thickness because of the turn-under allowance. Size 12 is plenty visible and it is easier to sew with. Size 16 is finer still - much easier to sew and it is a little bit subtler while still making a statement.
