Seven Starry Sisters is a variation of the traditional design. Blocks are to bring the stars closer together and sashing strips add dash of color.
My quilt feels like the 4th of July, but change the blue sashing to green and it would feel like Christmas. No matter how you make it, I think you will really enjoy this quilt.
Included in the 20-page digital pattern are:
- A full-size black and white pattern for the Seven Starry Sisters block (sashed blocks are 12" x 14"). Please note that the pattern pages are on 8 1/2" x 11" pages that must be trimmed and taped together to make the full-sized pattern.
- Yardage and cutting instructions for the 38" x 47" quilt.
- Cutting instructions (with detailed photos) for this hexagonal block using the Hex N More RulerÂ

The history of my quilt...
In the 1990s, when Piece O' Cake was in its early days, my Mom volunteered to make these blocks for me. Years passed. I forgot about them but every now and then Mom would get another block appliqued.
When she moved to Texas a few years ago, Mom gave me the blocks, both finished and not. I found the blocks on the weekend of July 4th, 2014, and chose the blocks that I liked the best to make this quilt.
Mom was new to applique and her blocks were not all the same size; some stars had moved out of position. I added sashing so that I could trim blocks to the same size. (Look close and you'll see that my sashing widths vary from block to block.)
The sashing began as a solution to a problem but it turned into an important design element. The sashing strips add definition to the blocks and an accent color.
This quilt will always remind me of my Mom and the 4th of July. I hope that your quilt will have a special meaning for you as well!
