Class Descriptions for Groups

If you are a group hosting me for an online class, you can use the descriptions below to advertise the class.

Photo to Fabric: Hand Piece a Collage

I love hand-sewn projects and the relaxation and mindfulness that comes with them. In this class, I show you how to create a hand-pieced fabric collage from a photograph. You can choose to create your own pattern from a photo or use my playful "Oranges" pattern which is included in the class. The online course shows how practical hand sewing techniques are as much a mindful activity as a versatile tool for creating fabric art.

Students will be given access to the class 1-2 weeks beforehand so that they have time to prepare the pattern, freezer paper templates, and gather fabric. The videos explain this process in detail.

This class is as much about color as it is about sewing. During our live session, I will offer helpful suggestions as needed so that you can confidently choose the best fabric colors for your quilt. Once you select your colors and fabrics, follow along as I show you how to hand piece the pattern shapes, with tips and tricks for success along the way.

Suitable for adventurous beginners or skilled sewists.

Birds in Toyland: Wool or Needleturn Hand Applique

Birds in Toyland is playful, whimsical, and maybe a bit mischievous ;-). These birds have personality! The Christmas trees signify the season, and the string of lights on the quilt provides a festive glow that will make you smile.

Students will be given access to the class 1-2 weeks beforehand so that they have time to prepare the pattern, templates, and gather fabric and supplies.

The online class includes detailed lessons to help you master wool hand-appliqué and needle-turn hand-appliqué. We will focus on one block in the live part of the class, sewn in wool or needleturned cotton, but you will have access to instructions for both in the online videos.

Right- and left- handed videos are included.

The ebook, Birds in Toyland, is included in the online class.

Bullseye: Foundation Paper Piecing

Bullseye is a totally addictive quilt-making experience. I know that it looks scary, but I promise that if you follow instructions and sew on the line, you can absolutely make a beautiful Bullseye. And once you make one, you will want to make more!

If you are like me, you like to learn how to do things from a real person—rather than only from a book. In this class, I am the real person you will learn from. And because these are videos, I was able to add tips and tricks that are impossible to include in printed instructions.

Students will be given access to the class 1-2 weeks beforehand so that they have time to prepare the papers, corner template, and gather fabric and supplies.

The class covers the Center Circle, Ring 1, Ring 2, and the Corners that form one block in the larger 9-block quilt. Techniques you will learn include foundation paper piecing and curved piecing, specifically set-in circles. Once you complete the course, you will be a foundation paper piecing pro! The class block finishes at 20” x 20”. You can use this block by itself, or make more for the larger quilt.

The eBook, Bullseye Quilts: From Vintage to Modern, is provided with the online class.

Each flower rests on an 8" x 8" block. Four 8" blocks are sewn together make the larger 16" block. You will work on one 8” block in class. Hand Quilting Basics and Beyond

Hand quilting adds beautiful texture and softness to your quilts. You will love the relaxed rhythm of hand quilting and experience real joy as you watch your stitches enhance your quilt. And just so you know, it is perfectly OK to mix hand and machine quilting!

Students will be given access to the class 1-2 weeks beforehand so that they have time to prepare the quilt sandwich and gather supplies.

Learn how to baste the layers, prepare the edges of the quilt so they stay tidy as you quilt. Most importantly, you will learn the classic hand quilting, rocking stitch. You will have the choice of making small, traditional stitches or showy, fast, big stitches.

It is a very good idea to learn hand quilting on a small project before launching into a big quilt! I recommend quilting an 18” x 18” square in class that can be finished and used as a pillow or small table topper.

Right- and left- handed videos included. The Hand Sewing ebook is included with the online class.

All skill levels welcome.

Stars & Pines—an EPP Class

In this class for all skill levels you will learn how to print and cut your own EPP papers which opens up major design possibilities. There are lessons on color and design, 3 different kinds of stitches, how to hold your sewing (which is more important than you might think), and much more!

The online class includes the pattern for Stars & Pines (a small quilt), and the Hand Sewing ebook

Right- and left- handed videos included.
