Lectures

I am happy to give lectures on Zoom directly to your guild, using your zoom link. Lectures are an hour long and my virtual lectures are exactly the same as my in-person presentations—except that you can watch them in your jammies :-).

I am always happy to answer questions after the lecture.

The fee for any 1-Hour Lecture: $550

THE SECRET LIVES of THREAD & NEEDLES

Thread is easy to take for granted but think about it… thread is what holds our fabric together. Without it, there is no sewing 😱!

This lecture is based on my book, The Ultimate Thread Guide. Learn about the four most common types of thread, how thread is made, and the personalities of the fibers used to make thread. And—drum roll please—the mystery of thread weight will be revealed! This lecture will make your next thread shopping experience happier.

A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO COLOR

You walk around with your eyes open - but how much do you really see? It's amazing what you can learn about color just by paying attention! I'll share with you what I've figured out about color over the years and how you can use this knowledge in your own quilts.

The color lecture includes the color wheel but it is not a color theory class. I give examples of where to look for inspiration, strategies for how to put colors together, plus a whole lot more.

IT’S NOT A QUILT ‘TIL IT’S QUILTED.

You’ve made a beautiful top, but how do you decide how to quilt it? I’ll share with you what I have learned (both the good and the bad!) from quilting my own quilts over the last many years.

In the quilting lecture I talk about quilting design inspiration, fabric choices and how they impact quilting, batting, and how-to information on both hand and machine quilting.

A PIECE O' CAKE LIFE

I have stories to share with you and who doesn't love a good story?! Even after 28+ years as an author and teacher, I wasn't sure where to start this particular story, so I asked quilters what they wanted to know about my quilting life. This lecture answers those excellent questions :-).
