This thimble is much like the domed under thimble, but it has an indentation—a dimple!

The needle tip hits the dimple and turns to go back up through the fabric very cleanly. The dimpled thimble doesn't sit as flat on your fingertip as the domed thimble does so it doesn't feel quite as natural on your finger. I use them both. Sometimes I like one better than the other.
