Hexie Garden Quilt
You will definitely enjoy appliquéing these happy, hexagonal blocks! Each individual flower is appliqued separately and then trimmed to a wedge. The wedges come together to create graphic, floral designs that have a distinctly modern flair. Individual template shapes are included for each appliqué shape which makes prep work fast and easy.
You will enjoy slow sewing these blocks by hand, or you can use any other applique method that you prefer. Stitch one block each month or go to town and sew them at a quicker pace. These blocks are surprisingly fast to sew!
This take-along sewing project includes 9 appliqué blooms that complement each other yet shine on their own in single-block projects. The full-size patterns and a 24-page color instruction booklet are enclosed in a colorful envelope that is printed on heavy cardstock.
I enjoyed making these blocks so much that I wasn’t done when I finished the bigger quilt. I made a quilt showcasing just one block (see farther below), using solid fabric. I call it Tequila Sunrise—I must have been thirsty :-). The instructions to make this quit are included in the pattern pack.
An option I didn't consider: Click here to read a blog post that explains a different way to handle the block backgrounds during the applique process.
Notions you may need:
- I used the Clearview 60° Triangle 10" Ruler to cut my wedges. You can also make a template from the pattern to trace and then cut the wedges.
- The paper pieced hexie-flowers are made with 28 total 3/4" hexagons and 84 total 1/2" hexagons.
Hexie Garden Quilt finished quilt size: 61 1/2" x 69 3/4". Each block is 16 1/2” x 19 1/4”, finished size.
