The birds in this quilt are inspired by the birds my husband, Steve, studied during his recent sabbatical. He is a field biologist, and an avid bird watcher. This quilt brings his life's work and mine together! All of the block patterns and instructions are included in the BOM.
I am making him a bed quilt. The bird blocks range in size from 15˝ x 15˝ up to 15˝ x 23˝. The final quilt, with borders, will measure about 80˝ x 80˝, including a simple border.
I am also including reduced-size blocks to make a wall-size quilt. These blocks range in size from 10˝ x 10˝ to 10˝ x 15 1/4˝. The wall quilt, with borders, will finish about 60˝ x 60˝.
I am working on the quilt now which is why I don't have final photos of the quilt. I will finish before you—but maybe not by much 🤣. I do have a Pinterest board with photos of the real birds, here's a link. I am using 'real' bird colors in my quilt, but your birds can be any color. I am very excited to see what you come up with!
The BOM includes:
- a diagram of the finished quilt
- cutting instructions for blocks and setting strips in both sizes
- 15 blocks total — you will receive 1-2 block patterns a month, in both bed and wall sizes
- template pages for bed and wall sizes
- a photo of my block for color reference
- basic applique instructions knowing that you will use your favorite technique, consult my videos, online classes, or books.
When the complete pattern instructions are finished, everyone enrolled will get the final updated instructions that include the border. I'm not promising a date—it could be summer.
